About EMO

EMO Court is a mansion in County Laois that attracts visitors from all over the country and beyond. The house is a magnificent example of the neo-Classical style, reflecting the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland which were first laid out in the 18th century and contain formal lawns, a lake and woodland walks with many very fine trees and shrubs. It was designed in 1790 by noted architect James Gandon for John Dawson, the first Earl of Portalington. In 1994, Major Cholmley-Harrison donated the house and estate to the Irish people.

 

The Challenge

EMO Court is a touristic hotspot that is well known for the architecture and beautiful gardens. The challenge was to increase the visibility of EMO Court within other markets, not just tourism. The Gardens, Trails and Events sections are a huge part of EMO Court so CDG took on the challenge of building a strong and trusted brand, with visual imagery that represents EMO Court appropriately. CDG wanted to promote EMO Court as a place where people can spend the day with family and friends exploring, experiencing the unique history and admiring the famous architecture.

 

Our Solution

We started researching the House & Gardens, the Architecture and the History behind the area. We identified that most people who visit EMO were Irish families, so the decision was made to make the brand more visible to an international audience. Strategically, this would ensure an increase in both traffic to EMO Court and the value perceptions of the destination. With this in mind, CDG focused on the need to attract more visitors that seek a different touristic experience in Ireland and also targeted event managers looking for unique places to hold events.

The identities core idea is based around experiencing the unique history of EMO Court. The logo has a historical value intertwined with a contemporary clean structure, creating a strong and unique visual communication. The straight, bold and modern lines represent the historical house’s architecture and immaculate gardens. While the elegant logotype sits in harmony with the modern lines of the building, forming a modern, yet classical logo.

We chose a classic color palette & patterns to enhance the overall impact of the visual identity. The secondary graphical patterns represent EMO Court and its traditions, history and architecture.
